Becoming A Master Of The Spiral

There are four extracurricular activities that a wizard may do while studying in the Spiral:

  1. Crafting
  2. Gardening
  3. Fishing
  4. Monstrology

Today we are going to be covering one of my favorites: Monstrology. A monstrologist gains higher ranks by obtaining experience from extracting animus. This is what will allow a monstrologist to extract the animus of specific, more difficult creatures at any given time. So, because of this if the Wizard is not a high enough rank then they will fail to collect animus.

Monstrology – The Basics

Monstrology is classified as the study of the monsters that are commonly found within worlds across The Spiral. The Monstrology book interface can be found clicking “T” on your keyboard. This is the home to the book in which a Wizard may use to properly control their personal collection gathered thus far. So, think of it as a diary to reference creatures that each Wizard comes across in their Monstrology travels.

First thing a wizard needs to do to prepare for Monstrology is speak to the Master of Monstrology; Monstrologist Burke. Setting a young wizard on their way with their book is critical to starting their journey with animus. This is the lifeblood of every creature in The Spiral is otherwise known as animus, which is extracted to this monstrology diary in it’s purest form. There are three forms that animus may take once it is collected: Summonings, Housing Guests, and Expel Treasure Cards. All a Wizard has to do is use the animus they collected along the way with some gold and bingo. A housing guest, expel treasure card, or summoning will be created.

Extracts will get a Wizard started on the path of monstrology officially. Extract spells can range to be quite expensive to learn, however. Be ready for the investment.

Summoning: Combat Advantage

With a cost of trace amounts of animus and gold this is a fairly cheap option for combat. At only 2 pips to bring to your side in the spiral this is an invaluable asset to have at all times. Myth has an even better advantage over other wizards as they can summon far more physically. Monstrology has summonings that range from the smallest of creatures to the biggest of bosses as a temporary alliance in combat. A fantastic example is The Devourer summoning which has a whopping 25,000 and almost 70% resist across the board for all school, exception being balance at 65% and 5% life. While he would not have his cheats and swallow foes but he would still be incredibly essential to any solo ran mission.

Expelling Enemies – 1 Shot KO!

Picture one shot KOing an enemy without having to use an attack. Now picture it fully capable in combat! This spell if used on the correct creature will one shot KO the mob every single time. It only costs a whopping 2 pips and solves a minion issue if facing a boss that does not re-summon. This is a neat option if you have it on your wizard or have the capability to create it using animus, and a handful of gold.

Housing Guests – Living, Breathing Trophies

Invite a creature to stay at your house for a fee of animus and gold. Think of this as the opportunity to show off creatures and bosses that a wizard has defeated. It gives a physical form to these creatures which can be interacted with in many ways. Because of this, castle magic, breadcrumbs, and advanced movement all work with housing guests. Basically, a wizard can truly make their house look classy and within style if using housing guests to their advantage.

Trading 101:

Monstrology is slowly becoming a massive part of the Empower community. Thanks to empowers a wizard that does not have the rank to get the specific creature they want can trade another wizard for it. Summoning Treasure cards and Expel Treasure Cards are very simple to trade but a housing guest is not. That wizard is going to need to be very quick at the bazaar in order to catch the creature of their choice. While doing this consider changing the bazaar category filter to # (number) instead of anything else. Remember to check for the exact starting name and letter of the creature for less room of error.

In Conclusion…

Monstrology is an amazing feature that Wizard101 offers to Wizards as a side activity. Therefore, more Wizards should be using and utilizing it. Solo missions are critical in a wizard’s questing journey, which only advantages from the Monstrology system. In conclusion, all across the Spiral wizards are starting to receive a better grasp on everything they are able to do. Because of this, more wizards are becoming Masters Of The Spiral.
