Avalon – The Dragon’s Homeworld

Enter: Dragons

Having been a steady part of the Wizard101 community since 2009 I’d say I’ve been through all of the characters, quests, worlds and objectives that could be thrown at me. Of all the content that was presented however there was one world that stuck out to me like someone bouncing up and down while screaming perfection. Dragons rule freely while kings and queens sit upon their throne. Their knights work with squalls to complete missions from their own order. Mythical creatures roam the streets. Oh my king won’t you induct me into the Royal order? A world of such mystery and delight. That’s right – I’m talking of the one, the only beauty itself; Avalon.

The one thing that Avalon does best is Dragons. With 8 different models that you will look forward to facing in combat including the end game bosses Pendragon, White Dragon, and Black Dragon I’d say the mythical, fire breathing lizard is something you will come across quite often. It is safe to say that dragons are a vibrant part of the lore belonging to Avalon and the questline as you race to reunite the Kings of Avalon. If you’re a power leveler much like I am then you won’t have much difficulty getting through the 161 quests laid out for you to complete before you get to progress past the home of dragons.

Look at the bright side though! You get your name engraved into some floating stone. Isn’t that super fancy?

Are you having a rock of a time yet?

Questing and Unique Finds

But seriously Avalon has so much to offer regarding lore. There’s a massive side-line quest that takes you through the history itself through vivid pictures: tapestries. With 15 of them scattered across the world for you to find. This supplies a unique challenge: piece the history up until present day.

There is one thing that stuck out to me above everything else while I was running Avalon for the first time. Summoning a dragon and trying not to get eaten at the same time is quite a task. However thanks to cunning wizardry you completely pull it off. Calling the Bone Dragon for the first time was such a thrill for me. I adored the rush of watching such a mighty, mythical creature answer my request and appear before me. As far as I was concerned, this thing could take a bite at Pendragon and made me want to just forget the Sword of Kings I ended up chasing the entire time.

As you recall we ventured to the past in DragonSpyre. Once again we become legendary time wizards and make our way back to the past. Our objective this go around was far more complicated as we learned what truly happened to Avalon. Sir Mallory led the Froudlings of the Weirwood (his “dark allies”) against King Artorious. Art killed Mallory, but not before Mallory fatally wounded him. The king was on his deathbed – falling for a trick from the lovely spider queen herself. She offered him a crown and told him nothing of what it truly was. He became a terrible, evil dragon the moment he placed that crown on his head; the Pendragon. He created armies and to this day sits on his throne while continuing to terrorize in the name of chaos. This is where we, as Wizards come into play to restore the Silver Rose Order.

There were so many encounters with npcs that end up staying even when you are finished with Avalon that truly brought my delight to the surface. Between mermaids, dragons, unicorns, and tree creatures there was a real sense of homage once you’ve completed your mighty quest. These npcs stay despite you moving onto the next world and that was such an amazing touch! It made you feel like you did some good in a far different way than what we were custom to thus far. That alone left me feeling satisfied and fulfilled as a wizard entity being called from one end of the Spiral to the other.

Costs of Access

Now let’s talk about the wallet because this world honestly isn’t that bad on it. To unlock everything in the world of Avalon you’ll see your pocket drop down by 10,170 crowns in total. If you purchased the 13,750 package that would cover the fee of the entire world of Avalon and give you some left over spending as well. That alone will run you $25. I personally believe Avalon is worth that much considering the sheer in depth questline that it provides you, along with progression in the game itself.

There are a few foes on the more difficult side such as Jabberwock, and the Witch’s Hut that pose a real challenge in those earlier levels. There is beautiful scenery and not to mention countless opportunities to train your side activities; fishing and monstrology. You even get to pick up some new spells while you’re questing here to add to your deck. There is just so much that Avalon offers that keeps me engrossed in the lore, and the gameplay itself every single time I run through it.
