The Door

It was more than just a door. It was a gateway to the most ultimate form of creativity, and self expression.

Inside that door I learned that the smallest of a flame can ignite the largest, roaring fire. The tiniest of pebbles can become the next largest set of mountains. A small sapling has the potential to grow into the most towering tree. Energy and life are one of the same, connected and intertwined. One gives way to the other and becomes something entirely brand new. I like to think of it as the difference between a journey and an adventure. Two sides of the same coin unable to have one without the other to make up the bigger picture.

That door taught me how to excel to the highest of points. Twisting and twirling ice in the palm of my hand is more than a rush; it’s a sensation of beauty. In a way, I’d like to think of us Wizards as creationists. Each spell we take from our deck requires more than a flicker of imagination to bring to life. We have to pour our heart and soul into the magic behind the card. We lay birth to a new object or force that didn’t exist a moment prior! Look at the storm school with the trickles of power that drive the force of a wave. Inspiration for that wave comes from the most tranquil of objects out there: water. So calm yet so vengeful if beckoned to be.

The same can be said of the actual creationists within The Spiral; Myth Wizards. Forging life into constructs and minions takes more than sugar, spice, and everything nice. Dedication and devotion are poured into these objects to mend the perfect battle partner. Some companions are born into The Spiral to be a simple pet, while Myth Wizards create something much more complex to be beside them in combat. Turning a gathered soul of animus into a perspective of wizardry was something unknown until recently.

The Fire school with it’s elegance only takes a sharp spark to ignite. I never agreed with those who claimed fire Wizards were only destruction. To take a simple ball of flame and shape it into that of a massive giant whom breathes a fury of heat upon the battlefield takes talent and control. There must be a balance of influx and outgoing – an equal footing between the two of them. That takes me to my next point.

Balance. The one school that seems to truly understand unification. If anyone comprehends the concept between questions and answers, it would be a Balance Wizard. A master of equilibrium, a beholder in the eyes of all the schools combined. They truly understand what it is like to need both aspects in order to create and breathe life onto the battlefield. What else could I say about balance? They are the strength of each chain in this tightly wound knot that links each of us to one another.

Life can not exist without death. One bursts into a new, vibrant form while the other breaks it down. Siphoning and draining, pulling and pooling into one’s own animus inside. Filling and sustaining yourself with the thrilling rush of power and new possibilities. Eventually everything settles down to come to a relaxing point. We become the very energy we forge to turn into new spells. We ride the currents of power only to slip up and view the door of change. Every day I slide on my hat knowing I am placing myself at risk in each fight I lift my staff in. But then again, with my fellow life and death Wizards at my side; what do I have to fear? The Unknown.

I thought the unknown were the astronomical schools of mystery. Can you imagine wielding a star in the palm of your hand, or flaring the power of the sun? Did you know the moon affects tide? It can empower a wizard’s own strength to a higher point than they were originally able to reach. Keeping all of this in mind, wizards have only been able to grasp onto small snippets of what the astrological schools have to offer. In our sheer arrogance we thought we were masters of the spiral. We had conquered everything that was offered to us.

The Door had so much more planned for us.

Welcome to the unknown, wizards.
